Ø Join the war on weeds
Enjoy a day at the Pinnacles and make a difference. On Saturday, Aug. 22, volunteers are invited to assemble at the east entrance Visitor Center at 9 a.m. to help rid the campground area of invasive, non-native weeds. Water and refreshments will be provided, and participants should wear long pants, sun protection and closed-toe boots.

Ø A great day at the ranch!
Some 150 friends gathered for a barbecue picnic at the RS-Bar Guest Ranch near Pinnacles on Saturday, June 20. The votes are in and Pinnacles Partnership's Third Annual Picnic Day was the best yet.
Pinnacles staff and volunteers gave demontrations about the condor recovery project, the area's plant and bird communities, watercolor painting and geology. Geologist Phil Stoffer even discovered a rocky outcropping adjacent to our picnic area that was stuffed with marine fossils!
Partnership board President Tim Regan presided over the barbecue, delivering chicken, ribs and hotdogs that accompanied a table groaning under the weight of other treats.
More than 60 visitors made the trip into the back of the ranch to view a California Condor chick in its nest. Many more visitors viewed a video short about the San Benito nest.
Fifty-five people remained for dinner, and many of them joined a star party where astronomers trained their telescopes on unimagined wonders above.
The next day featured a preview screening of an episode of "Native Voices," that was filmed at Pinnacles.
